NUP Youth Wing Rallies Young Voters to Back Kyagulanyi in 2026 Elections
MASAKA — Leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) youth wing have called on young Ugandans to rally behind the party’s president and 2026 presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, saying the youth hold the power to determine the country’s political future.
Speaking during an engagement held aboard Kyagulanyi’s campaign lorry in Masaka, Yusuf Jr Kiluluuta Nkeretanyi urged young people to “trust their vote” with the NUP flag bearer.
He emphasized that the youth make up the majority of Uganda’s electorate and therefore have a decisive role to play in the upcoming general elections.
According to Kiluluuta, the 22 million–strong national voters’ register includes approximately 12 million young voters, a proportion he believes could “change all the challenges the youth face” if they unite behind a single candidate.
“If the youth stand together, they can shape the leadership of this nation,” Kiluluuta said. “Twelve million votes are powerful enough to bring about the change young people have been demanding for years.”
The call was echoed by other senior youth leaders, including Dr Shamim Nambasa, Dr Judith Nalukwago, and Zzinga Shakirah Namiiro, who urged young voters to remain engaged, vigilant, and determined ahead of the 2026 elections.
They emphasized issues such as unemployment, education, and political inclusion as key concerns that require renewed leadership.
The youth leaders also encouraged young Ugandans to participate actively in civic processes, including verifying their voter details and mobilizing peers to vote.
The Masaka engagement is part of a broader nationwide effort by the NUP to consolidate youth support—an area where the party has historically enjoyed strong momentum.
As the election season draws closer, NUP leaders say they intend to intensify grassroots outreach to ensure maximum turnout among young voters.
The 2026 general elections are expected to be one of Uganda’s most closely watched political contests, with the youth demographic widely considered a crucial determinant of the final outcome.
